Quintiles Transnational to spend $19M on local expansion
Pharmaceutical company Quintiles Transnational Corp. is consolidating its metro Atlanta operations into the former AT&T building in Cobb County, which is set to become the headquarters for Quintiles' worldwide laboratory operations.
Quintiles will combine its Global Central Laboratories in Smyrna, Ga., and its Clinical Development Services (CDS) office in Atlanta within a single structure in Marietta, Ga., more than doubling its current space to accommodate the expansion. Renovation of the former AT&T building located at Terrell Mill Road and Interstate 75 is expected to begin in August 2007. The first groups of employees are scheduled to move during the second quarter of 2008.
Quintiles will spend $19 million in the expansion, retaining 450 jobs and creating 400 new high-level ones through 2011.
"For our Global Central Laboratories, this is another expansion to accommodate the growth of our business, following the additions of labs in China and India and expansion of our lab in Scotland," said Dennis Gillings, chairman and CEO of Quintiles Transnational. "The increasing demand for our CDS and laboratory services is driving the need to expand, and we're taking this opportunity to bring our Atlanta units together to improve coordination and efficiency for our customers."
