Plans for more industrial buildings moving forward

With the first building of the Braselton Distribution Center on Ga. Hwy. 124 welcoming the Home Depot, the developers of the distribution center are looking at the next long-term phase of construction.

Solution Property Group, Atlanta, is developing the Braselton Distribution Center – a 17-building industrial complex along the state highway in Jackson County. The Home Depot recently announced that it will open a distribution center in the first building, which has 546,000 square feet. No other buildings have been started yet in the distribution center.

The first phase will include 11 buildings on both sides of Hwy. 124, plans show. Four of the planned buildings are partially located in the Hoschton city limits.

Plans submitted to town officials last week for the second phase include six buildings, ranging from 60,000 square feet to 764,000 square feet. The second phase includes 154.4 acres.

The plans are being reviewed as a development of regional impact by state officials. The Braselton Planning Commission will not hear a rezoning request on the proposal, because the property is currently zoned for manufacturing-distribution, according to Kevin Keller, town planning director.

If both phases are developed as planned, the distribution center may have more than 4.6 million square feet of industrial space. The second phase is expected to begin construction in 2011, according to plans.

The Braselton Distribution Center is located near the Havertys Eastern Distribution Center and Mayfield Dairy.
